Hair Style Trend 2011

December 7

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams (30) at the premiere of "Blue Valentine" in New York City. She has grown out her pixie and now sports this pretty short hairstyle that's still off her ears. With the strong angles and full bangs it's similar to Shear Genius star Tabatha Coffey's cut. The near-platinum blonde color is similar, too. This is a really nice look for Michelle thanks to the variety of angles in her fringe and full coverage. It's cute and modern but also starting to look a bit like a dreaded combover.

Kelly Osbourne (26) has grown out her short hairstyle and created this big medium design with bangs that cover 2/3 of her forehead. The blonde color is a little different, too; there's a very pale shade of red in it. Such wide and thick styling may not be very flattering for her face shape. Overall it's quite boxy.

November 21

Stana Katic (32) at the 2010 American Music Awards. The brunette actress who plays Kate Beckett (Castle) has classic long hair with large waves. Simply beautiful! A few other stars, as usual for the AMAs, had wild tresses. Kesha had a funky high thing (punk-inspired?) and Pink looked very old with a new color: silver!

Taylor Swift (20) has finally bought a hair straightener (or somebody stole her curling iron)! All her trademark curls and waves she has had for years were gone at the CMAs. She unveiled her very traditional stick-straight new hairstyle with super long bangs and lots of multitonal highlights. Taylor has subtle red panels with her blonde streaks. Ever notice how straight hair shows highlights much better than other textures? If she falls in love with the colors, she might stick with her new texture...

Halle Berry (44) hasn't aged in ten years and once again she has the very short black hair style that is quite similar to her previous extremely popular crop almost a decade ago. Her extensions are long gone and there is little dispute this length is the most flattering for her. Almost 80% of women in a poll said she's better looking with short than long hair. Love the texture, too! It works for Halle, but this is still a boyish pixie haircut, and like what many men wear today. She's not the only woman with it in 2010. Compare hers to Ginnifer Goodwin's:

One the most startling makeovers of the year was this new pixie. Ginnifer had very long locks before they were sheared off. See the makeover page for both the before and after pictures in a short Flash movie. The change seems to pretty much look okay on the beautiful actress, partly because she has very clear skin. But most women usually don't approve such drastic changes, according to various makeover polls.

AnnaLynne McCord (23) hit the red carpet with a huge mane. Those are some serious hair extensions! A fair guess would suggest half the hair you see is articificial. Although it is not completely convincing, it is fun and dramatic. You have to give the girl props for trying something different now when so few celebrities are so flexible and creative, addicted to the status quo.

November 14

Mandy Moore (26) with a high chignon at the premiere of Tangled in Los Angeles. It is a cute formal updo with some very thin loose sections beside her cheeks. It has prom potential but it also seems as if it should be messier or neater. But it's only slightly messy and the design is consistently like that from top to bottom. Mandy is a tall girl and this high style draws attention to her height.

November 10

Sandra Lee (44) at the 44th Annual CMA Awards. She has a classic evening look. This is probably the most popular wavy long hairstyle today. It is simple, cute, and sexy. The structure is set with very straight hair from the crown and then waves starting at ear level down to the ends.
